EU Blue Card planning: questions to place on your responsibility map

A planning guide to the role, qualification, salary, authority, and employer questions that should have named owners.

Documents arranged beside a notebook

The EU Blue Card is often mentioned during German recruitment, but a label from a recruiter is not a case assessment. Planning begins by identifying the questions and the person qualified to answer each one.

Role and salary

Confirm the job title, duties, annual gross salary, working time, location, and intended commencement date in the signed documents. Salary thresholds and shortage-occupation rules can change, so check current official information and obtain case-specific legal guidance where needed.

Qualification evidence

Determine whether the relevant academic qualification appears in recognised records or whether a Statement of Comparability may be needed. Regulated professions have separate recognition concerns. HR can explain role requirements; a recognition body or adviser should address formal recognition.

Filing route and location

Your nationality, residence, and lawful location can affect where the process begins. Ask which consulate or local foreigners authority is competent, whether the employer intends to use an accelerated procedure, and who will monitor requests for further evidence.

Family and timing

A spouse or child may have a different document list and appointment path. Place family milestones on the same calendar without assuming all decisions will arrive together. Keep originals, translations, and certified copies organised according to the receiving authority’s current instructions.
