Custom planning roadmap
The sponsored relocation responsibility roadmap
See how a German employment move progresses from offer review to the first payroll cycle, and which party usually needs to answer each question.
1. Before accepting the offer
Confirm the employing entity, work location, salary, working time, proposed start date, probation, and relocation wording. Ask what “sponsorship” means in practice: fee payment, immigration counsel, document coordination, an accelerated procedure, temporary housing, or simply an HR contact. Employment-law interpretation belongs with qualified counsel.
2. Choose and confirm the case route
The competent authority or immigration adviser should address eligibility and filing. The candidate gathers qualification and civil-status evidence; the employer provides accurate role and employment documentation. If recognition or a Statement of Comparability is relevant, assign an owner and account for its timing.
3. Coordinate notice, application, and start date
Place contractual notice, consular appointments, filing milestones, travel decisions, and onboarding on one calendar. Agree with HR when the start date will be reviewed if work authorisation remains unresolved. Avoid non-refundable commitments based only on an estimated processing time.
4. Prepare the landing
Check whether accommodation can provide the documentation needed for registration. Plan health insurance follow-up, local transport, banking where necessary, and the records payroll expects. Family members may need separate milestones even when moving under related residence arrangements.
5. Protect the first working weeks
Reserve time for registration and authority appointments, tell the manager what administration remains, and secure identity documents. Record permit conditions and renewal dates in a private calendar. Review the first payslip and raise factual discrepancies promptly with payroll.
